ENTERTAINED
I placed my hand in the one offered, only realizing who it belonged to the moment I was pulled up to my feet. And once I was, I found myself glad for the reason to still be panting for breath, as he only ended up adding to it.
This was thanks of course to the intense gaze he was casting down at me. Oh, and the fact that he still had my hand captured in his own, refusing to let go yet. Gods, it was so hard looking up at him like this and simply wishing I was free to throw my arms around him and never let go. As if he was my own Jared, the one who knew who I was to him. The one who didnât blame me for anything and would never hurt me.
The Jared that loved me.
But that silver gaze was slightly narrowed and full of questions. That hard jaw was tensed as if he wanted to do more than just ask them. Each hard muscle flexing as if holding himself back and asking himself why? Why he wanted to do much more than just hold my hand. Asking himself why I had this effect on him.
I could read it all.
âWell, I think we made our case,â Marcus said coming to stand next to us, and after glancing down at my hand still locked in Jaredâs, Marcus obviously thought it best to make his position as my protector known. And he did this by placing his arm around my shoulders and taking a step back, taking me with him and giving Jared no other option but to let go. Something he didnât look very eager to do but without making a scene or playing his cards too soon, he simply frowned without snatching me back.
But then after this, he also took in a deep breath, making me wonder if it was in order to scent me or to aid himself in calming down. Then he looked right at me and said,
âYouâre right, Fool⦠far more entertaining.â However, the moment I looked down at my feet to get away from his intense gaze, I heard the slight rumble of displeasure before he acted. He did this by stepping into me, putting a hand between me and Marcus and moving him physically out of the way. At the same time, he took hold of my chin and lifted my face to his.
âWhere do I know your beauty from?â he asked, making me suck in a quiet breath.
âShe is mute?â he asked Marcus when I didnât answer, making me frown before saying firmly,
âShe is not.â At this his eyes slid back to mine and were soon back to looking amused by my bite of words. At this Marcus must have thought it best to intervene as he slid back up to me with a click of his heels and told him,
âThis is the famous Cookie!â I wanted to cringe at how shit that sounded.
âThe Famous Cookie⦠is that so?â Jared asked, most definitely amused now and with a raised brow directed my way.
